Privacy Policy
This site is built to need as little of your data as possible. Here is exactly what it collects, why, and for how long.
The short version
- No cookies, no accounts, and no sign-up forms
- No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts of any kind
- Standard web server logs only, kept briefly for security and aggregate statistics
- We never sell or share visitor data
Who we are
This website — eb.engineering and articles.eb.engineering — is operated by EB Engineering. For anything privacy-related, contact eric.beaty@eb.engineering.
What we collect
Like nearly every web server, ours records a standard access log for each request: the visiting IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the referring page (if your browser sends one), and the browser's user-agent string. That is the only data this site collects. The pages themselves contain no JavaScript, set no cookies, and load nothing from third-party servers.
Why we collect it
Server logs are used for two purposes: keeping the site secure and working (spotting abuse, diagnosing errors) and producing simple, aggregate visit statistics — page counts and the like — using self-hosted software on our own server. Known crawler and bot traffic is excluded from those statistics. No profile of you is built, and nothing about your visit is sent to any analytics provider.
How long we keep it
Access logs are rotated automatically and older logs are deleted, so raw log entries are retained only for a limited period. The aggregate statistics derived from them contain no personal data and may be kept longer.
If you email us
Contact with EB Engineering happens over ordinary email. If you write to us, we keep the correspondence for as long as it is relevant to your inquiry or our business relationship. Our email is hosted by Google Workspace, so messages you send us are processed by Google on our behalf.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share visitor data with anyone, and we use no advertising or data brokers. We would disclose information only if legally required to do so.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data we hold about you. Given how little this site collects, that will usually just be email correspondence — but either way, write to eric.beaty@eb.engineering and we will respond promptly.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change — for example, if we ever add a contact form or a newsletter — this page will be updated before those changes take effect.
